What it is like to attend
Children are warmly greeted by staff as they arrive at the playgroup. Most children are eager to attend and confidently separate from their parents. Those children who are unsure are given additional time and attention from their key person.
Children form strong bonds with the staff, who are kind and caring. Staff carefully plan and present a broad range of learning experiences, based on the children's interests and what staff want them to learn. Children have opportunities to make their own choices, as resources are clearly labelled and accessible.
All staff get down to the children's level and pose questions to encourage thinking.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- support staff to enhance the planning and delivery of large group activities, such as circle time, to ensure that children's interest is captured and maintained n seek additional ways to engage further with all parents, including those whose children are learning to speak English as an additional language, in order to help them to be able to support and extend their children's learning at home.

- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- Can I use my funded hours here? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Is there a place for my child's age? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
