What it is like to attend
Leaders and staff have successfully improved the quality of the education for children. The manager has a clear rationale for the curriculum and places a strong focus on helping children to develop enquiring minds, becoming critical thinkers and independent learners. Children are resourceful and confidently lead their own play. Staff are skilled teachers and enhance children's play well. They present children with a range of questions that challenge their thinking. For example, staff encourage children to consider the similarities and differences between an elephant and a rhinoceros. Children make good progress from their starting points, including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
Leaders ensure that children can develop their knowledge and understanding so they are well prepared for school. Staff promote early reading and writing skills well. This includes many opportunities to develop a love of reading and reading preferences. For example, children vote for the books they want staff to read.
Children access a wide range of mark making experiences that vary from large scale painting outdoors to creating treasure maps indoors. Staff have high expectations for children's behaviour and children understand the nursery rules.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- plan and organise the indoor learning environment to further support children's speaking and listening skills n review and modify the daily routines so that children have the maximum opportunities for quality learning experiences throughout the day.

- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Do you have a place for a child of my age now? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
