What it is like to attend
Children arrive happy and enter the nursery confidently. They quickly settle into the familiar routines. Staff know the children well and continually build on the children's knowledge and skills. For example, staff support the children as they learn to use plastic knives to cut fruit. Children enjoy learning new skills and are becoming increasingly independent.
Staff encourage children to develop an early appreciation and love of books.
Children enjoy choosing their favourite books and sit in cosy areas to listen to stories. Staff engage in lots of dialogue with children, and this helps to promote children's early language skills. For instance, staff talk to the children about what they remember from the story and what they think might happen next.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- support staff to use their assessments of children's progress to focus more precisely on what they want children to learn next n build further on relationships with parents to ensure all parents know who their child's key person is and understand the role of the key person.

- Is £44.00 a day still the rate? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Do you have a place for a child of my age now? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
