What it is like to attend
Staff warmly welcome the children as they arrive at the nursery excited to start their day. Effective transition visits ensure that children settle quickly when starting at the nursery or changing rooms within the nursery. Children's behaviour is good.
They show respect for each other and the staff. For example, they wait their turn to sit at the table for snack, and they help each other to find their coats. The curriculum supports children to be motivated to learn. Children concentrate and are confident to ask questions.
Staff have a clear learning intent for the activities they provide for children. The sequenced curriculum continues through the nursery to support all children well for their next stage in learning. Children engage well in the curriculum offered. Staff support children's learning well. For example, staff teach children about volcanos and introduce words such as 'eruption' and 'lava'. Children experiment using different activators to create their own volcanic eruption. Staff embed children's understanding as they look at volcano pictures, create their own volcano using dough and draw pictures of what they have learnt.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- extend children's language and vocabulary skills even further, through, songs and rhymes ensuring staff focus on what vocabulary they want children to learn and understand.
