What it is like to attend
Children get off to a flying start and thoroughly enjoy coming to the nursery. They have many opportunities to acquire new skills and develop in confidence. As one parent explained, 'my child has progressed and developed into a little character'.
Staff are ambitious for all children at the nursery. They want them to be happy and ready for their next stage in learning. This is evident in practice. As a result of the
COVID-19 pandemic, children have benefited from many opportunities to develop their personal development. They giggle and smile with happiness. Children also express their feelings by talking and by using the 'feelings board'. Children who are non-verbal, smile as they make harmonious sounds to their favourite nursery rhymes, such as 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. All children are listened to and their views are respected.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- encourage staff to pronounce words correctly, to enhance further children's speaking skills n maximise toddlers' engagement in activities, by providing a consistently wellplanned learning environment n make links with teachers at schools, to help better support children's transitions.

What to ask them

- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Do you have a place for a child of my age now? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
