What it is like to attend
Children are happy and feel safe at this nursery. Staff welcome children and parents warmly as they arrive. Throughout the nursery, staff develop strong bonds with children. Children quickly settle into playing. Staff have high expectations of children and support them to share and take turns when needed. For example, staff teach children to share, saying 'my turn, your turn', which supports children's social skills. Children are confident and show kindness and respect towards each other as they play. Children make good progress in their personal, social and emotional development. For example, children discuss their feelings, and staff help children to understand and express their emotions. This supports children to help them regulate their emotions.
Leaders create an ambitious curriculum that focuses on children's communication and language. Staff promote a love of books and reading throughout the nursery.
Staff share key books so that children can develop a deep understanding of familiar stories. For example, in the toddler room, children listen attentively to a story.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- develop staff's understanding of how to provide consistent messages and support so that children clearly understand expectations for their behaviour n strengthen approaches to promoting online safety so that children develop a clearer understanding of how to use digital technology safely and responsibly.

What to ask them
Some of this is above, from the setting or from parents, and it can go out of date. The rest is in no dataset anywhere. Either way it is worth ten minutes on the phone.
- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Do you have a place for a child of my age now? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
