What it is like to attend
Children skip happily into the nursery on arrival. They benefit greatly from the interesting and meaningful learning experiences that staff provide. For example, children learn about the life cycle of a butterfly through stories and discussion with staff. Children observe real butterflies closely. They gasp and squeal with excitement as staff help them to release the butterflies which they have helped to hatch. This supports children's curiosity and wonder about the world around them.
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) make excellent progress because of the prompt and well-thought-out extra help they receive from staff.
Staff prioritise building caring relationships with the children. This helps children to build the trust and confidence that they need to explore and play. Staff get to know the children well through the professional and courteous relationships that they build with parents and carers. This helps staff to understand children's current interests and provide helpful learning activities.

What to ask them

- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Is there a place for my child's age? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
