What it is like to attend
Children are happy and excited when they arrive at nursery. They leave their parents with confidence and settle quickly into their play. Staff are welcoming and nurturing towards children and greet them warmly on their arrival. Children are encouraged at every opportunity to be independent. Staff support children to develop their self-help skills in preparation for school. This is reflected in the range of activities staff provide children to explore.
Staff have high expectations for children and know what they want children to learn. All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, benefit from a curriculum that meets their individual needs. Staff support children to be confident learners and give them plenty of praise and encouragement during their play.
Staff work with parents to create a positive atmosphere at the nursery.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- extend and enhance outdoor experiences even further so that children develop an even wider range of skills as they play, explore and expand their learning n provide even more opportunities that help children to develop confidence to engage in learning appropriate for their age, to further build on children's selfesteem and confidence.

What to ask them
Some of this is above, from the setting or from parents, and it can go out of date. The rest is in no dataset anywhere. Either way it is worth ten minutes on the phone.
- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Is there a place for my child's age? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
