Funded hours
The Free 15 Hours are available for all children who turn three before the term starts and for eligible 2-year-olds. The Free 30 Hours are available for eligible 3–4-year-olds.
Worth knowing. The Free Early Education Entitlement funding entitles you to only the set number of childcare hours. It does not cover the cost of extras, including, but not limited to, additional hours, nappies, wipes, and lunches.

What it is like to attend
Managers and staff have high expectations for all the children that they care for, including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). They create stimulating play spaces to secure children's interests and engagement in learning. For example, babies spend long periods of time exploring the sand. They scoop it up and fill their jars, emptying them and repeating the activity over and over again. Toddlers select the construction resources they prefer. They carefully fit the pieces together, making intricate models over long periods of time.
Children are independent and confident. They talk to staff easily, expressing their views, ideas and needs. Staff support children to complete many self-care activities, including putting on their own shoes and clothes, serving themselves at lunchtime and self-registering when they arrive.
Relationships between children are good. Staff teach them how to behave well when playing, stressing the importance of sharing, taking turns and showing consideration for each other. Older children enjoy chatting to their friends, talking about what they are doing and listening to their friends' ideas about how they could improve their work. Babies play alongside each other. They watch what their peers are doing and copy them, developing their own skills as they do so.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- strengthen the communication skills of some staff, ensuring that they pronounce key words correctly when talking to children, to support children's language further.

What to ask them
Some of this is above, from the setting or from parents, and it can go out of date. The rest is in no dataset anywhere. Either way it is worth ten minutes on the phone.
- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Do you have a place for a child of my age now? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
