What it is like to attend
Staff enjoy their time with children and play joyfully with them. Children are happy and settled in the nursery. Staff get to know children well, identifying what they already know and can do. They use this knowledge to plan experiences for children that help them to make good progress in their learning and development. For example, staff recognise which emotions children are aware of and plan group-time activities and the use of books to extend that knowledge further. This helps children to develop new knowledge and understanding.
Staff have high expectations of what children are able to do. They encourage them to chop up their own fruit and butter their own bread. Children are competent at completing tasks for themselves. Staff give good explanations to children about what they are going to do. They ring a bell to let children know when it is tidy-up time. This helps children to understand the routine and what is expected from them. Staff use lots of language with children. They engage in group activities where they talk about the meanings of words. This supports children to develop their understanding of a range of words.

To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:

- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Is there a place for my child's age? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
