Worth knowing. There is an option to 'stretch' funded childcare hours across up to 51 weeks, rather than being limited to the standard 38 weeks of term time. By spreading the hours throughout the year, the weekly funded allocation decreases.

What it is like to attend
Staff create a nurturing environment where children's voices are heard and valued.
This leads to children that are confident to express their own interests, wants and views. Staff promote children's independence and give them numerous opportunities to make choices and develop their skills. For example, children select their own plates, cups and cutlery for snack time. They pour their own drinks, cut their own snacks and use the toaster to make toast. Staff praise the children and children demonstrate pride in their achievements.
Children demonstrate their positive attitudes to learning through high levels of curiosity, concentration and enjoyment. They engage well with the activities on offer to them, work together to solve problems and use tools and resources to enhance their own play. They listen intently and respond positively to adults and each other. Children demonstrate learning by reciting previous experiences and demonstrating skills they have learned, for example using a tape measure to measure objects. They talk about size, predict how long objects are and use the tape measure appropriately, holding it in the right way and using the button to secure it.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- build on staff's questioning techniques to enable children to have more time to think, respond and verbalise what they know.

What to ask them
Some of this is above, from the setting or from parents, and it can go out of date. The rest is in no dataset anywhere. Either way it is worth ten minutes on the phone.
- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Is there a place for my child's age? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
