What it is like to attend
Children receive a warm welcome as they arrive at the setting. Staff form positive relationships with children and parents. Leaders ensure an effective key-person system is in place, and staff know the children well. All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), progress well in their learning and development.
Leaders and staff plan a sequenced and ambitious curriculum that consistently builds on what children already know and can do. For example, the nursery embeds a strong emphasis on core stories to encourage children to develop a love of early literacy. Staff support babies to develop an understanding of different colours, and toddlers confidently relate feelings to colours, such as happy to yellow, as they listen intently to 'The Colour Monster' story. This supports children to develop an understanding of their feelings and supports their emotional well-being.
Staff are clear about their expectations of behaviour, and children adhere to these well. They treat each other, adults and the resources with care and respect. Gentle reminders to be kind and share are all that are needed to ensure that children recall what is expected of them. Children behave well and are prepared for their next stage of learning.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- strengthen the monitoring of staff practice to ensure their teaching always has the best possible impact on children's development n consider ways to improve hygiene practices so that they are consistently embedded to promote children's understanding of good hygiene.
