What it is like to attend
Children arrive happy at nursery and separate from their parents and carers with confidence. Staff use simple sign language and pictures to support children's communication and understanding. Staff deployment is effective. Children are generally supervised well. However, on occasions, the lunchtime routine in the preschool room provides less support for some children.
Staff help children to learn how to express their emotions, such as learning new words to help them describe how they are feeling. Staff provide opportunities for children to make marks on different surfaces. Older children colour in pictures of their school uniform while staff talk to them about their move to 'big school'.
Parents confirm how well staff support children's emotional well-being and help them to manage and regulate their behaviour.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- enhance the planning of activities to identify how learning can be adapted to provide further challenge for most-able children n review the organisation of lunchtime to ensure that staff focus on providing the necessary support children need n extend partnerships with other settings that children attend to share information about their development and how their learning is being supported.

What to ask them

- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- Can I use my funded hours here? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Is there a place for my child's age? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
