Funded hours
Up to 15 hours free childcare per week for eligible 2-year-olds; 15 hours of free early education to all children the term after their third birthday; 30 hours of free early education to those who qualify.
Worth knowing. Any hours that are additional to your child's funded hours will be chargeable at our current hourly rate of £6.50. NOTE: A claim period may not correspond exactly to the pre-school term so there may be a small charge. With the exception of hot lunches ordered from Avenue Junior School, Peapod does not charge for food supplied to the children (breakfasts, snacks and afterschool light meals). It is the expectation that parents/carers supply their children’s own nappies, wipes, creams, etc.

What it is like to attend
Children flourish in this welcoming and nurturing pre-school. They have built strong bonds with their key workers, who are very attentive to their needs. This has a positive impact on their emotional well-being, and helps to ensure that they feel safe and secure. Children know and follow the routine in the pre-school well. They instinctively know to wash their hands when they come in each morning and hang their belongings on their pegs. Children are becoming increasingly independent.
They confidently dress themselves, self-serve their snack and tidy up their toys when they have finished playing.
Children develop a positive attitude to their learning. The well-organised environment promotes their natural curiosity and eagerness to learn. Children have high levels of confidence in their abilities and in social situations. They eagerly interact with staff, their peers and visitors, and enjoy discussing their abilities and achievements. Staff foster a love of books among children. They eagerly gather around staff, who read with enthusiasm and capture the children's interest.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- review and strengthen routines to ensure children are fully supported to understand behaviour expectations and to help them to sustain their concentration levels more effectively.

What to ask them

- Is £6.50 an hour still the rate? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Do you have a place for a child of my age now? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
