What it is like to attend
Children clearly demonstrate that they are happy, safe and emotionally secure. If babies are a little unsettled on arrival, staff sensitively reassure them, and babies are quickly excited by the activities and smile. Children have positive relationships with the staff and each other. Staff are kind and gentle, being good role models, so children learn to respect each other's differences.
Overall, leaders and staff plan an effective curriculum and organise the environment successfully to enable children to make good progress. For example, all children access books, and staff engage well, such as helping babies make the noises of animals. Toddlers enthusiastically hold up their characters when they hear staff read about them, helping them to listen and concentrate. Staff pause reading so that children can say familiar lines, demonstrating their recall of the story. Staff encourage older children to use books to extend their knowledge, such as describing a caterpillar turning into a butterfly.
Children have good opportunities to be active learners and develop safe and healthy lifestyles. For example, staff hold babies to enable them to bounce on a small trampoline, strengthening their legs for walking, while having fun. Children climb, balance and use a slide outdoors, developing their control and coordination.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- strengthen the curriculum and staff's awareness of children's individual next steps of development in the outdoor area so that all children make the best progress they can n focus staff's development on extending children's ideas and comments to sustain their thinking and develop their learning further.
