What it is like to attend
The nursery is filled with smiles and laughter. Children receive a warm welcome on arrival and skip in happily. Staff put much thought and care in to the learning environment, which reflects children's interests and preferences for play. For example, they have extended pretend play opportunities by adding a hairdresser, shop and police station to the existing home-corner area to support those children who enjoy imaginative play. This helps to motivate children to join in and enjoy their learning.
Staff nurture children's curiosity, independence and confidence. The range of carefully planned play spaces supports the broad and balanced curriculum and provides opportunities for children to develop their skills across all areas of learning. This helps all children to build on what they know and can do.
There is culture of respect, in which staff model courtesy and kindness. They gently remind children about ways to keep themselves safe, for example, by sitting safely on chairs and walking when indoors. These clear and calm interactions help children to develop responsible behaviours. Staff are kind and caring. Children respond with trust and affection, for example, by cheerfully hugging familiar staff.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- help younger children to benefit even more from staff's good teaching, for example, by ensuring that their particular learning needs are considered more consistently when planning activities n give older children more consistent and clear guidance to help them to understand and cooperate with appropriate expectations during routines and activities.

What to ask them
Some of this is above, from the setting or from parents, and it can go out of date. The rest is in no dataset anywhere. Either way it is worth ten minutes on the phone.
- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Is there a place for my child's age? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
