Worth knowing. Funding is normally provided for 38 weeks of the school year. At Old School House Nurseries, we offer the option to stretch funding across 51 weeks of the year. When funding is stretched across the year, 15 hours becomes approximately 11.17 hours per week, while 30 hours becomes around 22.35 hours per week.

What it is like to attend
Children enjoy coming to the nursery. They arrive happy and ready for the day ahead. Staff welcome parents and children and create a playful atmosphere. Staff spend time finding out about children and getting to know them well so that they feel valued and safe. Children settle easily, develop good relationships with staff and are thriving.
Children benefit from a broad curriculum that promotes their abilities in all areas.
The nursery is well organised so that children can enjoy a wide variety of experiences and learning opportunities each day. Staff offer a clear routine so that children understand what is happening now and next. Children have opportunities to play outside each day. Staff sit among children as they enjoy climbing, singing and playing. Staff's interactions with children are consistently good. They listen to children's ideas and share language.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- focus the curriculum more precisely on what children know and need to learn next, so that expectations are matched to their stage of development and achievable for all children n strengthen adult-led activities with older children to enable all children to maintain attention and join in n explore ways to build even closer partnerships with parents so that informationsharing is collaborative.

What to ask them

- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Do you have a place for a child of my age now? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
