What it is like to attend
Children eagerly come in to pre-school where they are warmly greeted by staff.
Staff support children as they settle quickly and become focused and engaged in their activities. For example, children become engaged in building fire engines out of construction materials. With the support of staff, children are calm and behave well. They understand the rules and boundaries of the pre-school. For example, while playing outside they know when the whistle blows that they need to line up at the fence ready to go back inside. Staff encourage children to develop their independence skills through everyday routines, such as children pouring their own milk during snack time.
Staff develop children's interests into learning opportunities for everyone. For example, following an interest in a story about a beanstalk, children have a go at planting their own beans. Children learn to problem solve and to have another go as they are skilfully supported by staff. For example, children build a ball out of magnetic tiles and take part in a game rolling it back and forth, when it breaks, children work together to try and rebuild it.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- embed staff's understanding of the setting's curriculum intent, so that that they are consistently focused on what they want children to learn.

- How do you apply my funded hours? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Do you have a place for a child of my age now? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
