What it is like to attend
Children are happy and settled in this welcoming nursery. There is an effective keyperson system in place. This helps children to form firm attachments and promotes their well-being and confidence. Key persons have effective methods of developing relationships with, and seeking information from, parents so they know the children well. This helps children to feel safe and secure. This is demonstrated in the children's confidence to approach and interact with visitors to the nursery.
Staff plan appropriate next steps for children's development that build on what they already know and can do. Staff are effective in engaging with other professionals when needed. They make referrals to speech and language therapists and signpost parents to support from other professionals. Staff implement recommended strategies to support children in the nursery. This ensures that all children, including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, make progress in relation to their individual starting points.
Children are provided with experiences to broaden their knowledge about the world around them. For example, they have regular trips in and around the local community. They visit the park, beach and local theatre.
What Ofsted told them to improve
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should:
- support staff to develop their interactions to raise the quality of teaching to a consistently high level n improve consistency in how staff support children's understanding of the impact of their behaviours and why there are rules in place so that they can learn to self-regulate their behaviour.

What to ask them
None of this is in any national dataset and this setting has not published it, which is exactly why it is worth asking.
- What does it cost, all in? What is on top: meals, nappies, late pick-up, and what happens if you are late.
- Can I use my funded hours here? Whether they stretch them over the year, and the minimum days you have to book.
- Is there a place for my child's age? Baby rooms fill first and waiting lists are common.
- Who would my child's key person be? And how long have the staff been there. No dataset holds this and it matters more than anything above.
- Can I visit at a busy time? Mid-morning on a weekday tells you far more than an empty room after hours.
